Furniture manufacturing has changed relatively little over the years. Most pieces are still handmade and assembled with care. What has changed is the finishing processes that they undergo, specifically wood furniture. There was a time when furniture was stained and finished, but not fully sealed. Today, better wood drying processes and clear coats have changed that. The wood is dried and very stable today allowing for finishing in the plant that fully seals the wood. These clear coats act like a paint surface and fully seal the furniture. They even have matte versions so that new furniture that has been intentionally distressed will look old, but not have a new sheen to them. What this comes down to is that all you really need to do to care for wood furniture is to dust it. Use your method of choice for dust pickup, but remember any spray product you put on your furniture, only sits on top and does not penetrate into today’s wood furniture. Save your money on this one!
